Debby shared one interesting observation about Taikun regarding his sensory issues. This week during meal time, chicken stuffing was spilled on the floor, and Debby asked kids to clean up. While all kids picked spilled stuffing using their bare hands and then tossed in the garbage can, Taikun was different. Instead of using hands, he grasped a fork on his right hand to do it. He seemed to avoid touching the stuff using this hand. Moreover, after finding it's hard to gather spilled food on the floor, he tried to use his left hand to help. However, much to Debby's surprise, his left hand wasn't much of help at all---he was struggling to avoid touching the mess!
Debby concluded there are sensory issues in eating and suggested us to consult with an early intervention specialist for it. She also commented that this issue may get worse passing the age of three. On the way to my office, T shared that perhaps the culprit is the way he is taught in terms of hygiene habits. For example, A insists to wipe clean any residue from his face from minute to minute when Taikun is eating. T would refrain Taikun from touching anything messy or dirty on the ground (say dirt from outside).
Unfortunately we are in the process of moving to another jurisdiction of healthcare and T said perhaps we need to wait after we relocate to the other side of the river.
Gee.
