The next item on my list is find a good doctor. In May, when we came to visit this place for the first time, we had our first doctor-encounter of NY. Leonard had a seizure due to rapid raising fever caused by HFM and we rushed him to hospital. I have to say, even the ER doctor in here is way better than many so-called doctor in Erie. The diagnosis of the ER visit is precise and the test is minimal. We paid about $400 as it is an out-of-network plus ambulance service yet this is the most worthy ER visit I ever had.
There were three times we had to bring Leonard to ER, and all we got is baby tylenol. There were once we were told he had ear infection and given antibiotic. However, the doctor visit at next day confirmed he didn't.
Leonard had a good doctor in Erie who never ordered unnecessary test or medicine. M and I, however, don't. M tried to go to Cleveland Clinic as much as possible. Me, since I am generally very health, never bother to do that. Last time M forced me for an annual check-up ended up to be a disaster. What happened? I had a minor pain in lower abdomen and Doctor #1 ordered CT even blood work coming back to be normal. I had an allergic reaction to radiation dye that put me to ER. And ER doctor (Doctor #2), wanted to be thorough and ordered an internal ultrasound. This is the most painful ultrasound experience I ever had (I had a few when I was pregnant with Leonard): this one didn't even come with a chair like in OBGYN. The nurse put three pillows under my back and had me hold still. How can I hold still when there was a painful intrusion in my private area?! The ER doctor (Doctor #3) came back said the image showing no swollen or fluid accumulation so we better do a biopsy... I refused. I recalled when we just moved to Erie and neighbor's husband died for infection of a simple surgery. Afraid of more damage could be done, I made M take me home.
I was very much fine before that doctor's visit and ended up to be beat-up and exhausted. All I did was trying to avoid an argument with M so when he asked me for routine checkup I went. On top of everything, I never believe doctor should run whole bunch of test without diagnosis. If test could come before diagnosis, doctor would just became a interpreter that knows medical terminology that we don't. In this case, why not invent a machine automatically translate test result to plain English? In short, why would we ever need a doctor?
I really hope this time we will find a better family doctor. Most of all, I hope we will find a pediatric comparable with the one in Erie for Leonard. It is best we don't need to visit a doctor. However, it will be better we know we have a great one when we need.
